Class Cooperation and interaction thread

Post by maegilthalion on Mon Apr 18, 2011 3:46 pm

I haven't seen a repository of how classes interact with each other on the internet, feel free to post any you know of here, or any useful information.

This is a discussion on how the different classes interact with each other, and things you should do (and not do) when fellowing with different classes.
If this information becomed lengthy or very in depth (I hope) I'll try to create a spreadsheet for quick reference. There's just soooooo much to remember in this game.

I'll start out this discussion with things to remember when fighting with a Hunter, or if you're a Hunter fighting with others
- If you're tanking and you run into an area with mobs, setting up an attack, give your Hunter two full seconds to gather their focus before attacking. Listen for a 'swooshing' sound and an Icon over the Hunter's head to show they've reached full focus. A lot of the Hunter's instant shots require focus, and the attack will go better for the wait!
- If you're a Hunter, be sure to gather focus EVERY time you're in range of mobs and your tank stops.
- If you're a Hunter, wait a full 5 seconds to attack after the tank begins his initial attack. Use precision and/or Endurance stance to keep from pulling bad guys off the tank (drawing aggro) and having a bad guy you can't possibly kill attacking you. A hunter's job is to do DPS, you cannot do DPS when you're kiting (running like... from) a bad guy with 7k more morale than you have. Oh, you cannot do DPS when you're dead either Wink
- If your're a Hunter, and you're working with a Lore Master (LM), Rune Keeper (RK), Burgler (!) or other class that mezzes or stuns: learn to spot a mezz or stun by a white or purple glow around the enemy's midsection, their head bobbling around in circles (like they're seeing birdies...). Do NOT attack enemies that are stunned or mezzed in this way. Either target another enemy, or wait until the mezz is broken to attack. Some of these mezzes/stuns do damage over time, if you break them, you'll not only make your LM, RK, Burg, or other angry, but you're wasting energy on an inefficient attack.
- likewise if your fellowed with a Hunter. Higher level Hunters have pretty good crowd control skills, let us help the fellowship with these skills. Before entering a room or a 'chokepoint', let your hunter lay down snares to damage, or traps to 'root' an enemy in place. Hunters also have a shot called Rain of Thorns that root multiple enemies in place. Don't attack these rooted enemies at random, target the one the hunter is DPSing and take that one down first. Take each down one by one or as fellowship power dictates. If you don't attack randomly, some of these rooting skills can give you a minute's worth of crowd control. Look for the big red traps on enemy feet as a give-away a Hunter has used thier 'rooting' skills. By the way, I'm not sure why, but rooting skills work on birds, it looks kinda ridiculous to see a big bird with a bigger trap hanging from it's foot flapping away in place...
- One more, but well worth it: if your're a Hunter and you're lucky enough to have a Healer along, be sure to protect your Healer. If you're really in a good group, the leader will set up assist windows on the tank and healer (and some others depending on situation), so if you see the Healer getting whomped, retarget and HELP. Look at the target's morale, decide if you can take them down solo, if you're SURE you can, switch to Strength Stance and try to draw the enemy off the healer and attack you. When the Healer dies, the fellowship will fall, don't let this happen.

Well, that's what I've learned thus far, please add to this thread, share your wisdom, and make our fellowship runs more efficient!
Maeg.

Burglars
If you have a burg in your group, they do their best DPS from behind the mob. Try to be aware of your positioning. But don't necessarily try to go turn every mob around for them unless you are the main tank or have an understanding with them. They are used to running around to the back of the mob.

Its important to be aware of this in certain environments. For example if you are doing Stoneheight spider who drops big clouds of poison, it won't do to just keep backing up slightly because that will leave the burg standing in a poison cloud.

Hunter cooperation

Corruption removals
Also watch for corruptions. Remove them with Dazing blow.
If mob is below half health throw a merciful shot for corruption removal instead since its nice damage. Even if you need to do Intent Concentration or blindside or a quick shot or two to fill your focus enough for it.
This is a very unexpected way for hunters to help but important. You will definitely score points with your group and leader when you run over and daze ore remove corruption from an enemy.

Interrupts
Use your blindside to interrupt inductions. Its also wonderful for filling focus so you can fire off a rain of arrows or other expensive skills. Interrupting inductions is so important in many instances and sometimes you won't have a champ clobbering or a tank with 5 second stamp.

Root
When there is a bad pull of adds or the healer is in trouble and the tank soon will be and there is way too much melee, it may be a good idea for a Rain of Thorns as a preventative measure for damage.
I will sometimes call out that melee can move away because they are rooted as I shoot off a RoT. Rarely do people listen but it makes me feel good to try. I will often try to break the root by hitting the ranged mob since it does no good for a ranged mob to be rooted anyway and often people will follow the cue and start handling that add as it breaks or to save the hunter.
Beware that when RoT breaks all those mobs may come to you. Especially if you have that legacy to increase max targets for aoe skills.
This is when you hope to save a Beneath Care to pop and drop the aggro. You could also fear or distracting shot, dazing blow 3 of them. But that's often unlikely with a mob bearing down on you. Sometimes I slip back into Endurance for a bit to keep below radar.

Grand Stairs is a good place to practice a lot of these.
In the pull where there are 2 shadow brands who heal and one big orc I will sometimes start out with a fear on the left, a distracting shot on the right, then start dpsing the middle with the group. Close in, start blindsiding either of the shadowbrands that start inducting, dazing blow the other, by then fear is up again and I can fear one if the group is not already on it.
In some groups you barely have anybody doing any of this.
Beware though you could be competing for a burg or LMs job they can do better. Watch or communicate to make sure what you are doing is helping. Usually a good burg or LM will see what you did and follow up your fear or distracting shot with CC of their own.
If you are fearing mobs away from champs they also may not be too pleased because a good champ can aoe everythign together while switching targets and clobbering or horn stunning a couple diffrent inducting mobs.

I'll play, your minstrel's do their best work if they can work up their tiers instead of just button mash Bolster Morale. Stuff to boost their healing output, or stuff that increases the groups ICMR so we don't have to heal ya. That said, if the tank can't hold aggro, or the DPSers won't allow him/her to hold aggro (or build it up) the healer spends most of their time just mashing the bolster courage button. Not our best work. Interrupts are bad too, some random orc starts whacking away at me, I'm not fighting back, rather trying to get off a heal so I'll need someone to come over and whack the orc.

Also, sometimes a group has to make up it's mind, whether you want me to hit the CJ or finish the heal. Can't always do both. Lastly, you went through the trouble of bringing me along, don't automatically retreat, let me rez you. You won't have dread that way.
